Surface Electromyography is used to either test a specific dysfunction in a muscle or to provide feedback to the patient about the manner in which individual muscles are functioning. This is a useful method to normalize function in muscles. This therapy works well on the facial muscles or the pelvic floor muscles since normally most people have limited control over these areas. When a dysfunction occurs it is often impossible to regain normal muscle function unless the patient has external form of feedback as to what the muscle is doing. |
